Sanibel Sea School Purchasing Solar Panels

The Sanibel Sea School is taking their commitment to conduct business in an environmentally friendly manner to a new level by installing a 20 kilowatt solar package to their administration building. This project is anticipated to cost $40,000 which will be paid through donations from several family foundations and private donors. The Sanibel Sea School is a non-profit organization and the installation of these solar panels could save them close to $5,000 a year. The solar panels that the Sanibel Sea School is purchasing will generate more electricity than the school will use so the excess energy will be purchased by the School’s electric provider, LCEC, and the energy will be dispersed directly to LCEC customers. The School will still be responsible for electric charges incurred during the evening hours. “We will be generating more electricity during the day than we use during the night, so we will become self-sufficient,” Sanibel Sea School Co-Founder and Executive Director Dr. Bruce Neill said. “We typically pay about $5,000 a year for our electricity, so now, our bill will basically be zero.”
