Frequently Asked Questions

What is Power to Share by Rounding Up?

Power to Share by Rounding Up expands the LCEC Power to Share program by providing customers the opportunity to round up their monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar. This money provides short-term emergency assistance to qualifying customers within the LCEC service territory.

How does it work?

Power to Share by Rounding Up works by rounding up to the next whole dollar amount. For example, a bill of $150.25 would be rounded up to $151.00. The additional $0.75 will be allocated to the Power to Share Program. Customers can also add an additional monthly contribution or make a one-time donation to their bill. One-hundred percent of the donated funds are allocated to the Power to Share Program and administered by United Way to help pay the electric bill of someone in need.

Do my contributions stay local?

Yes, one-hundred percent of the donated funds are allocated to the Power to Share Program and administered by United Way to help pay the LCEC electric bill of someone in need.

How much will it cost me?

Excluding additional donations, the maximum yearly contribution per customer is $12.00. The total annual contribution will be reflected on the December bill.

What are some possible uses for these funds?

When a customer donates to the LCEC Power to Share Program, they are contributing to an effort to make a difference. Whether or not already contributing to United Way, LCEC encourages customers to consider contributing to the Power to Share Program. If everyone gives what they can, we can make an impact on the lives of many. Contributions may be tax-deductible (see your tax advisor for details).

Why does LCEC offer this program?

LCEC and the United Way are committed to helping people in our community improve their overall quality of life through long-lasting change.

I want to help. How do I enroll?

Customers can enroll through SmartHub, online at www.lcec.net, or over the phone with an LCEC Customer Care Professional.

How do I change, unenroll or opt-out of my contributions?

To change the amount of a contribution, or opt-out, customers can use SmartHub, www.lcec.net, or speak with an LCEC Customer Care Professionals. Please note that the changes may not be reflected until the next months’ billing.

Are contributions tax-deductible?

The total Power to Share contribution amount is tax-deductible and will be noted as a separate line item on the bill. If your tax advisor requires a receipt from the United Way as proof of donation, please email rd@unitedwayylee.org and attach a copy of your December LCEC bill. Customers that disconnected prior to December should attach their final LCEC bill.

Are there costs to this program that affect LCEC customer rates?

The Power to Share by Rounding Up program is completely funded by the generosity of participating customers, employees, and business partners. Electric rates are not affected by the program.
