Power to Share Program receives grant from CoBank

North Fort Myers, FL, October 18, 2012 – At the LCEC Board of Trustee meeting today Kurt Morris, Vice President of CoBank, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, presented LCEC with a check for $5,000 earmarked for the LCEC Power to Share program. The grant was awarded through CoBank’s Sharing Success charitable fund, designed to match contributions to nonprofit organizations by cooperative customers.

The LCEC Power to Share program was created in 2009 to assist financially strained customers with electric bill payments. It is a joint partnership between LCEC and the United Way. LCEC customers and employees contribute funds to the program and they are administered by United Way 211 to eligible recipients. “LCEC’s community support is legendary and contagious. They are heroes when it comes to helping people in the community get their lives together,” said United Way Executive Director Cliff Smith who was at the board meeting to receive the check. “When we meet with new companies, we use LCEC as one of the models for how to make a difference and have fun while doing it,” Smith went on to say.

So far in 2012, more than $30,000 in Power to Share funds have been raised and distributed to customers in Lee and Collier Counties through United Way 211. For more information, or to make a contribution, click here.
