LCEC Restores Power to 9,500 Customers After Severe Weather Impacts Cape Coral

On Saturday, January 9, 2016, at least one tornado, possibly more, caused extensive damage to the LCEC system.

Breakdown of restoration efforts:

Saturday, January 9, 2016:
-9,500 customers without power at 7:30 p.m. following severe weather in Cape Coral
-7,000 customers have power by 10 p.m.
-120 workers, consisting of LCEC crews and support teams, work around-the-clock to restore power to customers still without power

Sunday, January 10, 2016:
-250 customers remain without power as this evening.

Monday, January 11, 2016:
-All customers restored by 4 p.m.

Nearly 70 poles had to be replaced within a 12 mile area due to the severe weather that impacted Cape Coral. Several LCEC employees living in Cape Coral were personally impacted by this severe weather including an employee who was caught in the path of the tornado and became trapped in her car with her husband and two-year-old daughter after an electric pole fell in front and behind her vehicle.

Thank you to all impacted LCEC customers for their patience and support as we worked to restore power. We are humbled by all the kind emails, calls and letters sent in thanking us for our hard work. LCEC is also extremely grateful that no employees were harmed in the severe weather or restoration efforts.
