Electrical Safety for Kids

Curious kids and electricity do not mix. It is vital for parents to educate kids on the importance of being safe around electricity. LCEC reminds parents and kids to:

• Never put fingers or other objects in an outlet
• Never use cords or plugs around water
• Stay clear of substations
• Never fly a kite near power lines
• Never touch transformer boxes
• Never climb a power pole
• Never jerk an electrical cord from the wall
• Always ask a grown up for help with things that could be an electrical hazard
• Always look for power lines before climbing trees
• Always keep electrical cords in a tidy manner to avoid trips or pets chewing on cords

These are just a few of the many important tips that kids should know and follow to stay safe around electricity.
