LCEC crew goes beyond the call to help Upper Captiva firefighters in life-saving response

North Fort Myers, FL, August 18, 2025 – When a recent structure fire broke out on Upper Captiva, a long-standing partnership between LCEC and the Upper Captiva Fire Department proved critical in saving lives and protecting property.

Five LCEC line workers, working nearby, saw the flames and rushed to assist. Under the direction of the first firefighter on scene, who is a 30-year veteran, the crew moved debris, stretched hoses, established water sources from canals and the Gulf, and helped work to contain the fire until more firefighters arrived.

During the incident, LCEC workers became aware of two individuals trapped in a swimming pool as flames closed in and quickly alerted the firefighter, whose swift, strategic response saved their lives. The Fire Chief, who arrived on the scene not long after, praised the utility crew’s efforts: “The help from LCEC line workers was unbelievable. I can’t stress enough how helpful they were at the scene.”

Power was safely de-energized before firefighting efforts began, and once the blaze was contained to a single structure, the LCEC team restored service and returned to their utility work.
