Leadership Lehigh visits LCEC

LCEC recently hosted the 2011 Leadership Lehigh class at their North Fort Myers headquarters. Various area leadership programs provide a first-hand view of local business, industry and government. This enables them to build upon their leadership skills and develop further as corporate citizens.

While visiting LCEC, the class learned about LCEC departments and programs that make it possible to deliver electricity to nearly 200,000 customers in five counties across Southwest Florida.

The tour began with a welcome from CEO, Dennie Hamilton. “Everything that LCEC works toward is focused on delivering reliable, cost competitive electricity to our customers,” Hamilton explained to the group. Next, the group toured the contact center where more than 500,000 customer calls come in annually. One of the highlights of the tour was a visit to the System Operations Center which operates around the clock every day of the year. Operators monitor the system and manage electric loads, automated equipment in the field and aid with restoration. A quick trip to the LCEC Service Center provided one on one conversations with field supervisors, meter technician supervisors and supply management experts. Public Relations Manager, Karen Ryan finished the tour with a question and answer session.

LCEC typically provides half a dozen tours a year for leadership, academic and international visitors. LCEC does not generate electricity so there are no power plants to tour but the organization has earned a reputation for community involvement, innovative work practices and processes, technology and employee engagement so there is always plenty to learn about on the visits. In fact, in 2002, LCEC was honored to receive the Governor’s Leadership Award. The organization has also received many other types of recognition over the years including multiple AARP Best Places to Work for Workers Over 50 awards.
