LCEC Selects Local Wounded Vet to Nominate for No Barriers Program

LCEC is pleased to announce that it will nominate Josh Turner of Cape Coral, Florida for the No Barriers Program for veterans with disabilities. Through a partnership with CoBank and the No Barriers Program, LCEC did a call for nominations for wounded vets living within its service territory. “After careful deliberation, Josh was selected to be LCEC’s nominee for this program. Although our nomination does not guarantee that Josh will be selected for the No Barrier Program, we are proud to be able to nominate such a worthy individual,” LCEC Public Relations Manager Karen Ryan said.

Josh sustained injuries during a tour of duty. Since that time, Josh has braved through 14 major surgeries along him to walk again. Rather than letting the pain of his injuries hold him back during his long recovery, Josh obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Forensics from the University of South Florida and is currently working for the federal government combating child pornography and human trafficking. “I have been through a lot and it would have been easy for me to give up but that’s not who I am. A positive attitude and determination have helped me to push through the challenges and pain and work toward my new mission in life. Making sure the children in our community are safe,” Josh said.

No Barriers was co-founded by Erik Weihenmayer, an internationally renowned mountain climber and the only blind person in history to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. “Through the Warriors program, No Barriers has been working with veterans with disabilities for years,” said Weihenmayer. “We’ve seen the transformation that takes place when veterans are able to overcome the mental and physical challenges involved in one of our expeditions, and then apply the skills they’ve learned to the challenges faced in their day-to-day lives.” If Josh is selected, he will participate in one of a series of No Barriers Warriors expeditions.

LCEC is extremely proud of its partnership with CoBank and the No Barriers Program, and equally honored to nominate Josh for inclusion in the next bout of expeditions. To find out more about the No Barriers program, visit http://www.nobarriersusa.org/warriors/.
