LCEC asks customers to conserve energy during cold weather

January 28, 2022 – LCEC and its power supplier have sufficient energy reserves barring any unforeseen circumstances.

We are closely monitoring the weather and will provide updates should conditions change.

The LCEC system is monitored 24/7 and employees will report to work at 6 a.m. tomorrow to address any needs.

Customers are asked to do their part to ensure reserves are adequate and the system is not overloaded by conserving electricity:

  • Set thermostat no higher than 68 degrees
  • Dress warm in the morning until the sun warms the home naturally
  • Keep window coverings on south facing windows open during the day to allow the sunlight to enter the home and closed at night to reduce the chill from cold windows
  • Close the blinds once the sun sets to keep heat inside
  • Shower in the evenings and run appliances such as the dishwasher and clothes washer only when necessary
  • Clean air filters if using the heater
  • If using a generator or space heater, use proper safety precautions
