LCEC is proud to announce that its homegrown employee band, the LCEC Killa-Watts, will provide the entertainment for the 36th Taste of the Islands to benefit the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW). The Killa-Watts originally formed for a small LCEC fundraiser several years ago, but have continued to rock this community by performing at charitable events and causes throughout Southwest Florida. While the members of the Killa-Watts come from different areas of LCEC from management to energy services to meter services, they share a collective love of music, comradery and helping those in need in our community. The Killa-Watts perform year-round at events to benefit the United Way, help in the fight against cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and honor veterans. The Killa-Watts have also performed at many Chamber of Commerce events throughout the LCEC service territory. The 36th Annual Taste of the Islands will take place on Sunday, November 12 at Sanibel Community Party from 12-5 p.m.
LCEC announced that it will provide the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife, Keep Lee County Beautiful and the Monofilament Busters with Environmental Funding Awards. In total, these five awards total $14,250. Funds will be used for projects varying from programs for children to mobile marine units to educational calendars. LCEC accepts applications for this award twice a year with deadlines on March 15 and September 1. To apply for this award, organizations can email pr@lcec.net to receive an application. Interested organizations must meet certain criteria to be considered for the award including being located within LCEC service territory, funding utilized for projects/programs related to the environment and the utility industry, and having a demonstrated need for funds. This funding award is just one of the many ways that LCEC positively impacts and supports wildlife and the environment.
