When We Trim
FOUR things we consider prior to trimming a tree:
  1. The position of the tree to the line.
  2. The tree's rate of growth.
  3. The voltage of the line.
  4. The impact of an outage.
LCEC's Area of Responsibility

LCEC is responsible for trimming trees or vegetation contacting or having the potential to cause an outage on primary electric lines or lines located in utility easements. The primary line is the distribution or transmission line that leads from the substation to the secondary lines that feed homes and businesses.

Often, there are other utility lines such as cable television or telephone lines located below the electric lines on a pole. These lines are maintained by their provider.

Customers are responsible for maintaining trees and vegetation around secondary lines and outside of utility easements. These also include the service drops that lead to the home or business. LCEC is not responsible for trimming trees around streetlights or for aesthetics. LCEC trims for electric safety & reliability.
