Builder Safety
Rules for electrical safety when in close proximity to power lines:
Maintaining a safe distance from power lines is everyone responsibility. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations requires that you maintain at least 10 feet from any power lines energized at 50,000 volts and below. Additional clearance is required for any power lines that are over 50,000 volts. OSHA also requires that all electrical lines be considered energized unless otherwise proven by the owner or electrical company.
Planning ahead is the key to a safe work environment. Prior to starting a job determine if you will be within the 10 foot safety area. As early as possible notify the Builder Accounts Team at: (239) 656-2124 that you will be working in close proximity of the electrical line. We will then generate a work request and send out a representative to identify potential hazards and determine if we need to de-energize lines, install special protective covers or temporarily relocate the lines to ensure your safety.
