Energizing Our Community by Making Green Mainstream
LCEC is proud to offer an environmentally friendly way for you to conserve energy and reduce your electric bill. LCEC's HRU Program is a partnership that we have formed with select local air conditioning contractors to provide HRU installation to you at a discounted price.
What is a Heat Recovery Unit (HRU)? An HRU takes the waste heat expelled during the air conditioning process and uses it to heat your hot water. Your hot water tank becomes more of a storage unit for the hot water, rather than the source of heating it. During air conditioning season, you can shut off the breaker to the hot water system and have virtually free hot water.
LCEC's HRU Program Details:
- $700* - Standard installation with existing hot water tank (additional charges may apply)
- Distance between air conditioning system and water heater not to exceed 25 ft. of plumbing
- Minimum of 30 or 40 gallon water tank (not included in package)
- Installed by participating contractor
- Contractor responsible for collecting payment
- Some financing available
What are the benefits?
- Savings! The more people in your home, the more you save. For example, a family of four using their air conditioner for nine months can save 3,105 KWH per year. That's a savings of over $300 a year in electrical costs with an estimated three-year payback on the initial investment to install the unit. Needless to say, if you use your air conditioner more than nine months, the payback will be even sooner.

- Efficiency! An HRU improves the efficiency of your air conditioning system and extends the life of the unit since the coolant is being cooled down before it reenters the air conditioning system. If your air conditioner is a 10 SEER, it will work as efficiently as an 11 SEER; an 11 SEER will work as efficiently as a 12 SEER and so on.
